Employment
For many years it has been a reality that many young talents have had little alternative but to move away from the city to further their dreams and ambitions. The development of Millbay is designed to reverse that process. The successful development of retail and commercial opportunities is at the very heart of the Millbay project.
From providing massively flexible office space for corporations to small 'two-man' businesses, from small cafés to major retail outlets the opportunities for new employment will rejuvenate and sustain the area and will have invaluable repercussions far beyond Millbay itself. For businesses it will be an enviable environment in which to operate and with a catchment area full of talents, skills and ambitions.
The opportunities for employment throughout the development go far beyond the obvious. Every business will require a huge range of support services (eg; cleaning, taxi services, recruitment services, communications services, technical support services etc). Millbay will make an enormous contribution to the city and surrounding area’s economic well-being and safeguard its future. Moreover, hundreds of employment opportunities will be created during the construction phases. It is also intended that considerable use will be made of government training programmes to train people in new skills.
Then there will be the essential jobs created to maintain the entire Millbay area. As it will be a privately managed development gardeners, street maintenance, infrastructure maintenance people will be required.
In short, Millbay will bring back to Plymouth thousands of employment opportunities that would otherwise have never existed.
